Flutter or React Native in 2026: a decision framework
Meera Iyer, Head of Delivery ·
Both frameworks ship excellent apps today. We stopped arguing about frame rates years ago; the decision now rests on three questions about your team and product.
Who maintains it after launch?
If your web team works in React and will own the app, React Native keeps one language and one mental model. If you are hiring a mobile team from scratch, Flutter's tooling and consistency across platforms shorten onboarding.
How custom is the design?
Flutter draws every pixel itself, which makes heavily branded, animation-rich interfaces predictable on both platforms. React Native leans on native components, which is an advantage when you want the app to feel like the operating system.
What does the app need from the device?
- Deep platform integrations (widgets, CarPlay, Wear OS): native modules are needed either way; budget for them.
- Offline-first with large local datasets: both work; we have had fewer surprises with Flutter's isolates.
- Rapid A/B testing of UI: React Native's over-the-air updates remain a practical edge.
Pick the framework your team will still enjoy maintaining in year three. That is the only benchmark that matters.
